Murder in the Morning?
(a mini haibun)

Was he awake
before dawn?
Did he miss the
spiraling of blackbirds –
(when I went to get the
morning paper – dreading
to read the headlines…)
Wings like folding chairs
setting up for or
being taken down after
a funeral in the winter sky…

yesterday was all
rain, the creek rose, the sky dull;
time marched like blind men

http://crow.bz/main/murder.htm A horde, hover, muster,
parcel are also listed as collective nouns for Crows.
The most famous of them all is “a murder”.

an aerial display
the monarch chasing the swallowtail
…away from the butterfly bush.
on a hot humid summer afternoon;
love was in the air.

cool heart beats – insects;
just natural wonders witnessed
in the present moment.

lively angel wings
colorful as a rainbow;
just as fleeting too

11.20 Lone Great Blue

11.20 Lone Great Blue
(My attempt at an Ovillejo:)

Across the creek no bird sings;
Why have wings
I wonder is there some cruel knot –
if they cannot
be used to take one to a warmer Eden
give you freedom?
Is there justification to be stuck in this season?
In the middle of November still –
seeing the heron, still gives me a thrill
Why have wings if they cannot give you freedom?

With thanks to introducing the form and further explanation;
Please see:
Debi’s : Magical Thirteen

Notes: I saw ‘him’ yesterday around noon.
I truly thought the Heron would have migrated by now.
Perhaps he has made a nest in the tall dead plant life
across the creek that borders the end of my yard?

“Great blue herons, those tall gray waders that patrol streams and lake shores, are a puzzle. They are abundant along the Florida and Gulf coasts in winter, and yet there are always a few that winter as far north as Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. As long as open water remains, their favorite food — fish — is abundant.”

Also there is a syllable count – but I forgot about that this round.

All a Flutter?

http://leafandtwig.wordpress.com/
Inspired by the beautiful presentations of Seedbud:

All a Flutter?

Amazing how the months like moth wings fly –
People to the sun and insects to flames just a tad smaller…

Each thinking that with the rise and setting of day
The world is all our own, to in the summer rest and play

Take time my little winged friend to enjoy the syrup you sup –
And for all my friends of mist and air, partake with pleasure, nature

Note: for me two weeks, for my hubby almost a month without
seeing rain from the sky. Though there was a slight spritz
on the way to the airport – not even enough to put the rental
car wipers on. While waiting for the shuttle to take us back
to the car in long term parking… the sky let loose!

OK not quite to prompt. But so glad to be home –
now comes the fun part catching up on house chores. 🙂
