Taking action, November 10 reverse haibun

The course of the boat is left to the sail,
the movement of the sail is left to the wind;
As for me, I leave everything to Amida.
~ Zuiken Inagakie

Great Father, Venerable Mother, The Source, The Unknowable,
Adonoi, Amida; there are so many names one could choose
when seeking to find comfort and direction. Our individual crafts…
must float. Though the sails have various shapes and colors.
Even the wind a constant unpredictable force, drums different
beats throughout the universe.

In the end is it always the movement on the path that brings
us the most joy rather than achieving the ultimate destination?
What actions can be taken today that were not taken yesterday
to make one whole and to make the whole healthy?

Practice takes practice. The ultimate action. To eventually
become second nature to nurture.

(g) OctaTimbre-haibun/MLMM/ Grass Warriors (10.25)

Grass Warriors
(OctaTimbre 8 words by 10 lines/ haibun combo)

Under the shade the grass does not grow
Especially where the roots of aging trees rise
Where little dirt seems to linger for nourishment
There has been an attempt to reseed areas –
But it seems the birds and squirrels dine
On the newly spread and watered seed offerings
The weather did not help this week either
Wind without direction swirling followed by heavy rain
Scattered loosely all about, what seed wasn’t eaten –
I still enjoy walking my yards full length

maples, pines, chestnuts
so many trees block the sun;
blades still, cut through ground

modifications
(haibun)

Adjustments. If it is misty put on a raincoat, take a different
Route. Stop and chat with the neighbors. Even the ones who
are moving out. Walk between the storm that has moved in
for about twenty-four hours. With the wind that knocks over
the same potted plant three times. And knocks off the green
tomato left on the vine on the last day of the month. I suppose
it is time to harvest the rest of the green tomatoes. And maybe
the last of the green peppers that were supposed to be yellow.

“Hear me, four quarters of the world – a relative I am!
Give me the strength to walk the soft earth,
A relative to all that is! Give me the eyes to see
and the strength to understand, that I may be like you.
With your power only can I face the winds.
