Deluge of the
First of three storms…
(haibun with haiku)
Yesterday, change up routine, a predawn walk
to get in steps…Where the hints of shadow
play like old spider webs
The sparrows, robins and cardinals are enjoying
the cool morning after rain to hunt for large juicy worms
Slowly the neighborhood wakes
Lights twinkle on as the stars twinkle out; few are out
Or awake in the predawn solitude of what could be an
early spring – Between the two storms expected today
After two storms and then throughout the night
The barometer changes – my head pounds –
Temps drop, there will be no early rise or walk today…
snow is possible
tomorrow; a gift from the
north westerly winds
Just Karma 90
Good Day for a Wedding
More storms expected.
The weather fronts move
Like the moods of some women
Choosing just the right outfit –
Which could be a good thing
Even if her fellow has to wait
Because in the end…
Her radiance lights up the room.
face rises – blood
courage, passion and sin;
flower, foretells the weather,
emotional storms though
…scarlet and other bright shades of red are the colors most associated with courage,
force, passion, heat, and joy..[and] also often associated with immorality and sin.
… An early recorded use of scarlet as a color name in the English language dates to 1250.

or poor man’s weatherglass, from its habit of closing its flowers in dull weather.

the morning after (the big snow)
at five just a bit of cloud cover over
the moon; one giant eye in the sky
highlighting the latest snowfall, the
trees look like they are sugar coated
over an hour attacking the heap
the city plow left; barely a dent – for
one car to pass into the cleared
street (two hour delay for some)…
at that hour one neighbor walks a dog,
another gets stuck trying to move
her car… where to pile the snow…
almost too high for me to heave-ho it
over what mounds already exist –
but the paper was delivered – at six
I wake him for his turn…after all he
with the major roads clear he will go…
into work…he stayed home yesterday,
though that didn’t stop him from working –
his phone ringing almost none-stop.
between the shoveling and show blowing…
and during the lull between the storms.
(Thanks. No. …I don’t tweet)
mowed the lawn between storms
always something to do – rake, weed, mulch and feed – the
yard is an ever changing palette of plants and the critters who visit…
two storms in one day
can a summer garden’s thirst
ever be quenched
when drought is setting records
parching the fields everywhere
