Spring View?
(katuata (count-type) pieces)
long shadows looming
over the crisp field of snow
proves that the moon is shining
bitter cold creates
delays for schools and commutes
rearranging schedule starts
boulders line the roads
of the wintry mix that was
once known as Snowstorm Stella

katuata 5,7,7 line/syllable count

Just Karma 175 for September 2016 wp

‘Able’ and ‘Can’
(mini haibuns)

Behind the scenes plays a much different act;
the crew who build and moves the sets –
that is where I have been.
In the darker shadows, with my name
occasionally printed in a pamphlet.

let the loud voices
bellow to reach great distance;
I will hear whispers
The wing of industrious insects
Imprinting the seasons with action and song
That is where I will be
In the silver moon lit shadows, with my eyes
Looking upwards to the constellations

let the dusk and dawn
build the dreams of my nights and
also of my daze

Thunder is good, thunder is impressive;
but it is the lightning that does all the work.

frog adventures 5
(a haibun)

kaeru watches carefully – hiding in
the Sabbatia as the egret flies
overhead seeking lunch

hoping that a fish is more to the
liking of the great white bird
than a small humble frog

while across the road others animals
dine at tables set with plates and
clear glass drinking vessels
kaeru ducks into
the shadows looking for flies
after a long hop

kaeru = in Japanese means both frog and returning.

ik 251 for November 2015 wp

ik 251
(Collom Lune quad)
more than substantial

calm settles after
a storm, a rainy day
full of grey

perhaps it is
just the center, the eye
with more arriving

grey shadows have
both light and dark shades
of becoming sounds

some of which
could be your own true
thoughts gently whispering

Karma is cause and effect. Dharma means cosmic law.
Yoga is enlightenment through movement and Tao is the
practice of acting in harmony with the fundamental essence
of everything you encounter.

Note: My haiku (or other forms) are my interpretations
or of how I might put the inspirational sentence
into practice, for me. Also, I am going in my own order.

9.19 purple shadow

purple shadow

hokku: (by © Jane Reichhold

the autumn skies
folded into the mountains
purple shadow

it was if she were baking
the ingredients measured

bathed in lilac and
dressed in hues of indigo;
wore a grape apron

boysenberry, lavender,
aquamarines blended fair

took the great pine spoon
by the light of a full moon
gently stirred the sky

amethyst, violets and
damson danced in her bright eyes

who could tell if it
were sunrise or sun setting
it did not matter

because it was all a dream;
play of shadows on a screen

Indigo is a color that is traditionally regarded as a color on the visible spectrum, as well as one of the seven colors of the rainbow: the color between blue and violet. Although traditionally considered one of seven major spectral colors, its actual position in the electromagnetic spectrum is controversial.

in the dark hours

in the dark hours

at two in the dark hours
Venus was over the creek
while the Snow Moon was
over the peak of the roof…

at five in the dark hours when
the Snow Moon was making
long shadows in the yard
Venus was long gone…

one rare clear night sky
in this February month
part of this winter season
that seems to want to stay

with more snow in Tuesdays’
forecast, just enough to soften
the edges of what already exists
– just waiting for some sun…

and then more fun to
spring clean all the debris
that wrath winds wrought
while finding relief in blooms

night watch

night watch

moon continues to grow
silver oval eye looks for Venus
she is west, they share the sky
with just a few more stars

the odd footprints of the day
fade in the tree shadows
the bird feeder sways
ever so gently…

I know I might not see the moon,
Venus, stars or any shadows –
tonight another snow storm is due
plowable ‘they’ say…

I will have to imagine a slightly larger
moon, Venus just a tad more distant
and gentle shadows to guide this
winter a day closer to spring
