Spring Greys
(mini haibun)

Oh where be the Green O’spring
(Just three days from the starting line)?
The flock of red breasted robins have returned
Looking for safe purchase in the hedge
Their internal clocks say it’s time to build nests!
Both bush and tree seems to remain barren –
If there were buds, they’ve been squirreled away!
They play King of the Hill on ‘white’ mounds of snow!
Even the Red Wing blackbirds have gathered in groups

Yellow dawning sun
Rises in the crisp blue sky;
colorless cold chills

Monkeying Around?

plenty of
red lanterns, dragons
hongbao – Happy New Year

To the Chinese, red represents good fortune, …around the New Year the color can be seen everywhere in Chinese cities: red lanterns hang in doorways; red paper cutouts adorn windows. And a staple of the holiday: red envelopes, called hongbao in Mandarin, or lai see in Cantonese, are filled with cash and given by married people to children, unmarried relatives and friends, and employees. The sum is typically an even number, and it shouldn’t contain the number four…

good fortune right now.

Karma is cause and effect. Dharma means cosmic law.
Yoga is enlightenment through movement and Tao is the
practice of acting in harmony with the fundamental essence
of everything you encounter.

Note: My haiku (or other forms) are my interpretations
or of how I might put the inspirational sentence
into practice, for me. Also, I am going in my own order.

9.29 …vast variety…

…vast variety…

just because its there
and some call it a found prize
please keep your truffles

the fungus among us has
quite a vast variety

and if you don’t know
exactly what you’re looking
for – there’ll be no ‘score’

red is a warning so is
orange – be wary of spots

I think I’ll be safe
and buy my mushrooms from the
local town grocer

Lady Bug?

Lady Bug?

lady beetle
black and red
land on my hand
give me some luck
let me count your dots
are you youthful with just two
or are you a grandmother like me
with twenty three?
while I guess I can
say that I have never counted that
many spots, I have seen some
ladies with lots of spots
in shades of yellow
and orange too,
besides red
and black

fallen skies

fallen skies

even in the heavy mist
or is it light rain of the morning
where the sun just makes the grey sky
seem bright though there isn’t any blue
showing or puffy white clouds…

the neighbors have bushes in flames,
colors brilliant red and pumpkin orange…
but the cardinal does not hide in either
they flit in the barren horse
chestnut branches, the dappled

yellows of the silver maples
and the pale yellow willow eyes-
then they settle after catching
breakfast bugs to their favored perches
in the white pines and other evergreens…

‘Watercolor’ (6.28)

red bird perches
atop the green pine tree
preening after rain

in calm dusk
cool whispering breeze – adjusts feathers
cardinal or robin?

their chest rising –
a dusty rose, as mist
blurs the lines

and still couldn’t ID my bird friend
