Observing 17
Spring Greys
(mini haibun)

Oh where be the Green O’spring
(Just three days from the starting line)?
The flock of red breasted robins have returned
Looking for safe purchase in the hedge
Their internal clocks say it’s time to build nests!
Both bush and tree seems to remain barren –
If there were buds, they’ve been squirreled away!
They play King of the Hill on ‘white’ mounds of snow!
Even the Red Wing blackbirds have gathered in groups

Yellow dawning sun
Rises in the crisp blue sky;
colorless cold chills

As It Is

Silver
And white
In more abundance
Grow from the thy
Crown

once when getting a trim
the gal
wanted to change the proportion

declined did
I,
not one to dye

Karma is cause and effect. Dharma means cosmic law.
Yoga is enlightenment through movement and Tao is the
practice of acting in harmony with the fundamental essence
of everything you encounter.

Note: My Elfje; five line verse of 11 words and
line/syllable count; tau ku : 1/6, 2/2, 3/8 and or pi ku: 1/3, 2/1, 3/4
are my interpretations of how I might put the inspirational sentence
into practice, for me. Also, I am going in my own order.

varying degrees

varying degrees

at nine in the morning after choosing to stay in
a flash of brilliance catches the corner of my eye
then wait for it…
Boom.
not the rumble of traffic on the road, but in the sky
as grey fails from the clouds, rain melts existing snow
soon to refreeze into the odd shapes left by the
condensed ice that tries its best to grip the warmth
that remains fluttering inside my chest….

*****

at eleven waning snow moon in the east
just over the the neighbors home across the street
in the west Orion dots the sky of my back yard

after an almost full day of different degrees of rain
the snow mounds have shifted, decreased in sized
also with the help of an afternoon sun…

sight and sound

sight and sound

forsythia the middle of November
unexpected bits of yellow in the garden

a warm rain has lured buds to open on
this day when the sun plays hide and seek

yes, there it is – that is the color of our star
believe us say the fae dancing winging waltzes

while the grey squirrels blend in with
the somber silver, hoping to find one last walnut

as they escape the ever vigilant hawk
who has decided to nest in the same willow tree…

~~~~~
out at the crack of dawn – noise on a Saturday morning
the city leaf collectors vacuum piles left at the curb…
thought they’d left our pile because it was too small
but they are only doing one side of the street at a time
most of what has fallen from our trees in the back
I’ve been able to mulch – maybe one more mow…
Mindful 26
verse and Elfje pairing
perhaps just to get closer to the bird feeder
the cardinal pair travel swiftly from the north
pine to the south, to be closer to the feeder,
though I don’t see them there… they just
rush back to north pine to their nest which is I
am guessing about a third down from the top.
a late afternoon snack or an early dinner while
the snow falls and the grey of what was this first
January snow day ends in a darker after dusk…
reds
flash grey…
white turns silver
without the help of
moonlight
