refilled after days away;
did the birds miss me?

now to empty suitcases and do mounds of laundry…

peckish

Redtail Hawk is back
looking under the wood stack
For squirrel dinner

squirrels stayed safely hidden
as the Blue Jays pecked at seed

Redtail Hawk did not
find the little voles either;
left the ‘feeder’ crowd

fickle red head
poking love messages
for all to see

love her, lover
get bugs for her, always
all the yard trees

might raid
the feeder hanging just for
me, me, me

Mindful 26

verse and Elfje pairing

perhaps just to get closer to the bird feeder
the cardinal pair travel swiftly from the north
pine to the south, to be closer to the feeder,
though I don’t see them there… they just
rush back to north pine to their nest which is I
am guessing about a third down from the top.
a late afternoon snack or an early dinner while
the snow falls and the grey of what was this first
January snow day ends in a darker after dusk…

reds
flash grey…
white turns silver
without the help of
moonlight

Mindful 21

I hear the wrens in conversation
I can only imagine their dismay
as yesterday it seemed like spring
though I am sure they knew it was too early

I hear the wrens in conversation
I can only imagine their dismay
so few berries, the ground is too hard
and the squirrels have again raided the feeder

I hear the wrens in conversation
I can only imagine their dismay
good thing our nests are warm and protected
under this porch alcove, here come rest your head…
