Contradiction in Contractions
(prose and Collom Lune 3,5,3 words)

Whether to limp along or be
proactive in muscle discomfort…
Should ‘one’ be thought of as lucky
that only one set, group or side
causes distress?

At least there seems to be some signs
of recovery – with the aid of rest and
medical creams… And the lesson learned
that sometimes waiting for aid for a heavy
task is the right thing to do…

Age is just
A number hanging over head
So they say

Observing 5
Spring Sigh
(haibun with tanka)

How does one celebrate spring
When in the winter of their own life?
Difficult as it is to remain independent
The neighbor in his nineties, finally is
Accepting help from those who may yet
Become closer than living relatives…
Knowing and accepting limitations also
Means knowing when to ask and accept help.
So yesterday he allowed her to take him
To the local barber…maybe Monday for groceries…
Once home he’ll return to the reverie of youthful springs

age is a number
days are marked off as they pass
soon spring will arrive

even though the weather hangs
tightly onto winter’s cloak

haiku and Shadorma:
Keep Birthdays Simple

age is relative
enjoy every present day
your presence is best
*
daze of days
at eighteen gifts stop
at least for
that one side
when every day is a gift
they are all special
*
a card would be nice
phone calls are good, but sometimes
a surprise ‘could do’
*
Inspired by: Keep birthdays simple
from: Instant Karma by Barbara Ann Kipfer
8,879 ways to give yourself and others
good fortune right now.
*
Karma is cause and effect. Dharma means cosmic law.
Yoga is enlightenment through movement and Tao is the
practice of acting in harmony with the fundamental essence
of everything you encounter.

Note: my haiku (or other forms) are my interpretations
or of how I might put the inspirational sentence
into practice, for me. Also, I am going in my own order.

Side Glances

Side Glances

reality can be a steamroller –
age (getting older) is that number
that just keeps on adding while
at the same time subtracting

he sits at the table, eating dinner
his hand is a tad shaky
bringing the spoon to his mouth

We aren’t thirty anymore and that
can be a good thing but it also
means the holiday table is missing
some faces, though gained some new

she sits at the table, eating dinner
knowing the dishes will be
cleared and set …again and again

another calendar month draws
to its completion and the season
keeps trying to change, to spring;
subtracting age while adding life
