Learn Things Without Poking a Sleeping Bear
(OctaTimbre syllable count)

Wearing a white had does not mean
That one gives others carte blanche to
Take advantage of someone – just
Because you have been given a
Second chance does not mean that all
Of your previous faults will be
Discounted – even a wiped slate
Has some residual chalk bits…
Learn from your mistakes, move with a
Smile onto the next adventure

Carrot Ranch Invitation: Spell… Bound?
(OctaTimbre with a Septolet haibun)

There is excitement in the air for me
I am stretching my wings, embracing something different
There is a slight tremble, shadow of fear…
No one will want to come and play
The enchantment of creating is the rainbow lure
Who will nibble and possibly take the bait?
Nerves rattle like the moistureless leaves just waiting…
To fall …will they be crushed under foot?
Will I be a successful mage with my
Willow wand in hand and cast my spell

Interrupt time
Interpret space

There is
No race
Just a
Hope for
For participants…

Petal Memories…
(OctaTimbre haibun)

As I wait for the frost to kiss
The roses; I think of a grandfather who
In his later years cultivated such beautiful flora
At least I think of the stories that
I have been told, since he passed before
I was born… he was better with bushes
Than people. At least that’s what I understand.
Roses have their own language without the need
Of speech. They perfume for each of us
Uniquely – perhaps that is the lesson they teach?

Mr. Trebek , “What collects at the bottom of toasters?”
(OctaTimbre in syllable count)

They multiply like coat hangers,
Mold on leftovers in the frig,
Or dust bunnies under the bed.
Sometimes though they are just little
Trails that the birds end up eating
So you can’t find your way out of
An enchanted forest or a
Foggy bit of information
That you need – it is right at the
Tip of your tongue; that is ‘fine crumbs’.

A Fleeting Moment Captured
(OctaTimbre in syllables)

A surprise, at least call first, then
A quick little drop visit here
An opportunity for a
Photo opp of grands and their folks
Since they were running their errands
Now I’ve just got to run my own
Errands tomorrow and get some
Copies to send to relatives
To see how quickly the young ones
Grow… while their parents, seem ageless

Boo! Apparitions In Question
(Two 8 count syllable OctaTimbre verses)

After several weeks without ~
It pours makes roads into rivers
Though it does not appear to be
Cold…the mourning doves, chickadees and
Cardinals surround the feeder
Maples leaves dance in the slight wind
There is a mysterious air
Somewhat electrically charged
Playing games with the doorbell at
Seven-thirty in this Sunday

Poltergeist? Surely I am too
Old for such childish games or pranks
This early morning annoyance
Has happened before, which is why
I had an on off switch installed
Which only works when I use it…
I could have slept in along with
Gentle rain falling, birds calling…
The electrical disturbance
Shattered my dream adventuring
