LIGHT; sequestered by the season
(katauta and Sedoka set)

palpable the dense
atmosphere closeted and
enclosed within these four walls

~
illuminate dark
shadowed corners hiding webs;
unstable silk collects dust

winter shade hides much
dirt, under roots, underground;
bare black ice like worn velvet

(g) OctaTimbre-haibun/MLMM/ Grass Warriors (10.25)

Grass Warriors
(OctaTimbre 8 words by 10 lines/ haibun combo)

Under the shade the grass does not grow
Especially where the roots of aging trees rise
Where little dirt seems to linger for nourishment
There has been an attempt to reseed areas –
But it seems the birds and squirrels dine
On the newly spread and watered seed offerings
The weather did not help this week either
Wind without direction swirling followed by heavy rain
Scattered loosely all about, what seed wasn’t eaten –
I still enjoy walking my yards full length

maples, pines, chestnuts
so many trees block the sun;
blades still, cut through ground

Carrot Ranch Invitation: Spell… Bound?
(OctaTimbre with a Septolet haibun)

There is excitement in the air for me
I am stretching my wings, embracing something different
There is a slight tremble, shadow of fear…
No one will want to come and play
The enchantment of creating is the rainbow lure
Who will nibble and possibly take the bait?
Nerves rattle like the moistureless leaves just waiting…
To fall …will they be crushed under foot?
Will I be a successful mage with my
Willow wand in hand and cast my spell

Interrupt time
Interpret space

There is
No race
Just a
Hope for
For participants…

Petal Memories…
(OctaTimbre haibun)

As I wait for the frost to kiss
The roses; I think of a grandfather who
In his later years cultivated such beautiful flora
At least I think of the stories that
I have been told, since he passed before
I was born… he was better with bushes
Than people. At least that’s what I understand.
Roses have their own language without the need
Of speech. They perfume for each of us
Uniquely – perhaps that is the lesson they teach?

petal memories
soft and comforting embrace
autumn’s arrival

The ‘Double Take’ challenge focuses on the use of homophones* to build your writing piece. You have two sets of homophones and you are challenged to use all four words in your response – which can be poetry or prose.
Our first homophone set this week is: straight – not crooked, strait – narrow waterway
Our second set of homophones is: discussed – talked about, disgust – sickening
