Perusing Summer Daze
(shadorma series; 50 words including title)

The rabbits
Respond to the warmth
Carefully
Creep out of
Safety; a perceived mansion
The old man’s farmhouse

Drinking deep
From the cistern they
Peruse dawn,
Undulate
Inquisitively at the
Unguarded garden

Vibrating
Out of opaque sky
Chimera?
Just a hawk
Hunting artisan wants a
Delicious breakfast

1)Let’s try a fifty/fifty split: write a piece of flash in 50 words using one word from each column; you can alter the form of the word – responded; deliciously
(* the words I used)
noun verb modifier (verb/noun)
*cistern *undulate *careful
*artisan * respond * inquisitive
sphinx, attach, ultramarine
*rabbit *peruse *opaque
courtesan, *vibrate *delicious
2)And in 25 words or less, an image for your perusal and penmanship:

3)shadorma (3/5/3/3/7/5). You can write one stanza (that’s what I do) or multiple stanzas. I’d like you to write to a theme word this week, chimera.

Chasing Tales
(free verse & pi ku)

How restrictive are
The limitations we place
Upon ourselves?

Those resolutions
We make and break
As if they were bits
Of dark chocolate just
Waiting to be consumed?

What tales do we tell ourselves
When we turn away from
Our mirrored reflections?

Vowing to be healthier –
We add miles to our routines
Yet just walking alone
Is not the prevention nor
The cure to all the hidden ills.

Those designer genes we inherited –
Can we, just by lifestyle changes,
Alter courses fate has set into the stars?

cloudy thoughts
guise
limitations

This is the time of the year folk make, and break, resolutions. Weave a tale concerning keeping or discarding a resolution. Remember not all resolutions are for “improving” our health and well-being.

BE9: ‘Wait’less

Too soon summers’ choices of afternoon tea paired with imagination
in the garden that had us bowled over with imagination seems to
wither like the last cut roses of autumn’s bounty. We will have to wear
the woolie hats and scarves of winter that billow less than silk…
that cover our faces barely leaving our eyes to see the color of the sky.

Keep a spring in your step, a lightness within your heart. Take the
whole of winter to rest and plan…then with a quick glance take that
chance and leap into the comfort in air blooming with the return of life.
All that other life that also slept…waking slowly…listen to the music of
nature and float with ease to the rhythm that draws us all.

caution can be wise
when there is too much to ‘see’
weigh the facts – then ‘sing’

add your voice to the choir
or belt out the grand solo

MLM writing prompt 89
“Compassion for others begins with kindness to ourselves.” – Pema Chödrön

The few degrees warmer that this morning brought also woke the squirrels,
which he saw pass through the trees. He only ever asked ‘them’ to share
the bird seed. Perhaps he thought if it is my desire to feed birds I should also
feed those squirrels too instead of asking them to share – I should just provide
more seed…

He then let go of his curmudgeon grimaces caused by those he called thieving
squirrels. He let that emotion pass like a full sailed three master for a frown
offered him no comfort and the furred beasts with fluffed tails were only doing
what they would normally do…

It is I, he said who must find the harbor of compassion and let all wild beggars
have their fill without displaying my human characteristics which have little
influence upon natural courses…

arrow flights are curved
compassion is well rounded
sacred is the world

new words, old worlds

often on the creek
when the blue hued rabbit rests
mangata shimmers

so brilliant
when full his face glows
some see ears
a rabbit
in a silver disk so high –
moonglade on water

moon
creates road
moving on water
ocean, lake, stream or my creek
as the orb waxes or wanes
I float there aboard
the dreamship
Sleep
