Just so I don’t have to cook, t’is all
(haibun)

Maybe when he returns,
though he’s been eating out –
He’ll be willing to take me out?

Though with winter returning
I’d have to bundle up –
We wouldn’t have to go far

We could return
To the local place, maybe not a
Favorite…no mess to clean

We can be found returning
To our two stools to the left
Of the bar – watch soundless TV

Then after we return
Payment for the bill, we can
Go home – and enjoy our reunion

cooking can be fun,
in my own space, but tonight
no chef’s role for me

  1. Yes, we all need to be treated to the role of partner and “date” out, not wearing our cook or clean up crew member roles! I like the sound of your local place, Jules. 🙂
