A Peace Offering

I have seen the cold breath of the North Wind
Huffing and puffing the rain outside my window
I extend a hand with fingers of grey smoke
To warm my own blood and calm the Sky King
And now that the rain has ceased I can venture out my door…

And in the Blue Sky, a Sliver of Moon

One lone purple miniature iris
About a half dozen yellow daffodils
Assorted little blue flowers from some weedy plant
And a larger, yet still small five petal bloomer from the variegated creeper
That is what we spied, Son of Son and I, while out this afternoon

A Matter of Time

For a time the beside clock had righted itself
However she’s off kilter again –
Odd to wake in the night and think there
Is less time for rest and dreaming –
The lure of an off day finds me not worrying…

Midas Touch

Sun Feb 26, 2012
Morning sun gilds the top half of the maples
Was that a Jenny Wren or a Cardinal’s
Golden breast flying forward into the dawn
That I would not have seen
If the alarm were not set for work…

Limits

A strong north wind pushes the geese south
Looking for safe harbor, looking for the sun
A few climb the banks of the creek
One cold element at a time appears to be enough
Either water or air, but not both…

ice water veins

A winter renga:

the Frost Queen returns
lacing the outside of the
windows with cold rain

the grey liquid curtain clings
withholding sun light – no warmth

reaches me but my
heart remains hopeful for spring
now three weeks away…

Gnats for Breakfast Anyone?

At six in the morning with stars twinkling their stage
The birds practice their spring songs…
~~~~~
Who would have thought the sun warm enough in February
To open the windows and air out the house…
