Mindful 7

triple tanka

early morning noise
man made airplane competes with
the wild geese honks

natural suburban noises
as the city stretches streets

some quiet places
remain as hidden gems – safe
protected passage…

right outside the back garden
beyond the creek – the easement

allows some critters
a small natural habitat
the wild geese rest

the humans progress, flying
without wings – reaching new heights

  1. I love being able to stumble across the small natural spots – the ‘hidden gems’ you mention – in cities. I think that a city has to keep them safe in its heart or it becomes too inhuman. Perhaps we can only fly without wings if we have remembered to keep those places alive.

  2. Very good – Man vs Geese :) This one has a really nice calming affect on me, I can hear the geese honking in my mind as I read it. Plus it is fun that you used the word ‘critters’ too, haven’t heard that in a while and the ending soars majestically too. Lovely. I will read more of your work, I promise!
